With Jaguar now offering consumers two SUVs and an all-electric crossover arriving in the next few months, the idea of a Jaguar station wagon is not as shockingly iconoclastic as it was when the X-Type Sportwagon arrived in the U.S. back in 2005. Indeed, the 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake almost seems almost mundane. Mainstream, even. That’s selling it short. The new XF Sportbrake is the first wagon Jaguar has offered in the U.S. since the X-Type Sportwagon was discontinued in 2009. It’s not the first XF wagon, however. A load-lugging variant of the previous-generation XF was launched in Europe in 2012, but as it was not available with all-wheel drive, Jaguar Land Rover North America declined to take it, for one simple reason: Many of America’s loyal cadre of premium wagon enthusiasts live in the weather-challenged northeast or northwest. For them, all-wheel drive is a must. All of which explains the carefully nuanced specification of the 2018 XF Sportbrake.Although other … [Read more...] about 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake First Drive Review

Jaguar has released its first teaser image of the XF Sportbrake, a new wagon bound for the U.S. and other markets. The new model will join the XF sedan when it goes on sale this summer. That’s also when we can expect a full reveal, Jaguar says. As we previously reported, the Jaguar XF Sportbrake wagon will share an aluminum architecture and gas and diesel engines with the XF sedan, which received a host of updates for the 2018 model year. Judging from the teaser image, the wagon will feature an open, airy glass roof. Expect it to compete against the Mercedes E-Class wagon in the U.S., along with the BMW 5 Series wagon abroad. “With XF Sportbrake we’ve created a silhouette which sweeps towards the rear, almost into the distance, and really gives the car a sense of speed and sportiness,” said Jaguar design boss Ian Callum in a release. “It will bring new levels of practicality to the range without sacrificing the dynamic design and agile … [Read more...] about Jaguar XF Sportbrake Teased in New Video
Those looking for a midsize luxury wagon will have one more option to choose from this winter. Set to battle the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon and Volvo V90, the 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake is marked above its competitors with a starting price in the low-$70,000 range. The XF Sportbrake has plenty in common with its sedan sibling. Not only does it feature the same front face and aluminum-intensive architecture, but it also promises the same cornering ability thanks to software functions such as Intelligent Driveline Dynamics. Although the lines running through the XF Sportbrake make it appear bigger than the sedan, both models share the same overall length of 195 inches. The model comes with 20-inch wheels, a body kit with gloss black extended side sills and trunk lid spoiler, and taillights in the half-roundel motif similar to the units on the new F-Pace SUV. Only one engine option is available for the XF Sportbrake sold in the U.S. This is a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 shared … [Read more...] about 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake Arrives this Winter
PORTO, Portugal—Male driver grips hands at 9 and 3, switches car to dynamic mode, and proceeds to slice and dice the twistiest of mountain passes with gusto. The scene smacks of Sports Sedan Cliché 101, but in this case the vehicle in question—a 2018 Jaguar XF S Sportbrake—is capable of righteously hauling ass over zigzaggy roads while hauling a sofa in its cavernous 69.7-cubic-foot cargo hold. Is this the future of mature enthusiast motoring? Jaguar is taking a small chance on the fledgling genre by finally bringing a wagon version of the XF to the States, and if you ask the lunatic fringe of enthusiasts, the move didn’t come a moment too soon. (Spoiler alert: our key takeaway after tearing up Portugal backroads is that if you didn’t glance back at the cargo area while ripping up the road, you might not know you’re driving a wagon.) Weighing 165 more pounds than the equivalently equipped XF S sedan and packing the same 3.0-liter supercharged … [Read more...] about First Drive: 2018 Jaguar XF S Sportbrake

Subaru Outback ($25,895) and the new-kid-on-the-block Volkswagen Golf SportWagen ($21,580). But the 2018 Jaguar XF S Sportbrake competes more closely with the stalwart Mercedes-Benz E400 ($64,045) and the stylish Volvo V90 Cross Country ($52,300).This begs the nagging question: Could wagons become a serious thing in the States? We spent a day bombing through Portuguese backroads to find out how the Sportbrake fares among its niche competitive set.The 2018 Sportbrake is a wagonized version of the second-gen XF sedan that arrived in 2016. While the first-gen model only offered a wagon variant for the European market, the new Sportbrake is a global vehicle that brings a more streamlined, aluminum-intensive architecture to the table and finally gives American wagon lovers the Jag they've been craving.First off, the essential reason we're here: the cargo area. Using the lawn of the All-England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, London as a canvas of sorts, Jaguar has revealed a partial outline of the upcoming XF Sportbrake. A wagon version of the brand's midsize XF sedan, the Sportbrake will go on sale this summer and should reach the US later this year.Jaguar design boss Ian Callum was on hand as ground staff created a large-scale silhouette of the newest Jaguar over the iconic white lines of Wimbledon's Centre Court, and said the long-roof XF "will bring new levels of practicality to the range without sacrificing the dynamic design and agile handling our customers expect.”Here in the US, interest in station wagons waned in the late eighties with the surge in popularity of SUVs and crossovers. That doesn't mean there aren't customers that remain loyal to the segment, though. The Volvo V90 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon are both fresh arrivals in the premium wagon segment, while the Subaru Outback remains a stalwart of the more mainstream … [Read more...] about US-bound 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake Teased
Proving there's some life left in the luxury wagon, the 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake will appear next month and is destined for the US for the first time. The company will introduce the new wagon version of its XF luxury sedan June 14, according to Motor Trend, at a special event. While only disguised versions of the vehicle have been shown so far, it's widely expected the Sportbrake will differ little from its sedan counterpart.Front and rear-seat spaces should be similar to the XF, as will the dash and controls. Engines should also likely consist of four and six-cylinder options, and with the possibility of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel offered on the sedan. All-wheel-drive will at the very least be an option – the XF's two main rivals in the US, the Mercedes-Benz E400 Wagon and Volvo V90, offer the tech as standard and optional, respectively. But towards the rear, the XF Sportbrake will have more versatility than the XF sedan, thanks to the wagon bodystyle. Given its more … [Read more...] about Jaguar XF Sportbrake Set For June Debut
The 2018 Jaguar XF starts at a reasonable $48,770; its wagon counterpart, however, costs a whopping $71,445. Blame the British brand’s decision to launch the wagon, or Sportback in Jaguar parlance, in just two, high-equipment trim levels. Fortunately, those with shallower pockets and an eye for the XF Sportback’s versatile shape will soon be able to get their hands on more reasonably priced variants of the mid-size luxury wagon. Joe Eberhardt, Jaguar Land Rover’s North American CEO, promises more affordable derivatives in the “near future.”Eberhardt didn’t go into detail about the upcoming XF Sportbrake models, but given that the wagon currently features the most powerful and expensive powertrain in the XF lineup (a 380-hp supercharged V-6 paired with all-wheel drive), we’d wager that Jaguar will slip its new Ingenium turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood of the wagon to bring down the price. In the sedan, the gas-powered … [Read more...] about Cheaper Jaguar XF Sportbrake Coming; XJR575 and XE Project 8 Top $100K
Call it a longshot, but two wagon revelations in one week have us wondering if a long-ignored vehicle segment is about to see a resurgence in the SUV-loving U.S.The latest news comes by way of Motor Trend, which confirms the upcoming Jaguar XF Sportbrake — British newspeak for “wagon” — is bound for these shores.Speaking at the Paris Auto Show, Jaguar Land Rover CEO Joe Eberhardt claimed the model is a “global vehicle,” meaning North America (or at least the U.S.) gets a cargo-happy Jag that isn’t an F-Pace.The automaker plans to unveil the XF Sportbrake at an unnamed auto show next year. A production model should arrive as a 2018 model. While he didn’t go into too much detail, Eberhardt claims the Sportbrake adopts aluminum architecture and the Ingenium engines found in its sedan sibling. That likely means a turbocharged 2.0-liter gas engine and the 2.0-liter diesel. The Sportbrake news comes as Buick readies its next-generation … [Read more...] about Jaguar XF Sportbrake Heading to America; Could it Spark a Wagon War?
