The conference brings in a different set of speakers every year to share some of the latest advancements in engine technology. Every car lover wants to bolt in a real toad-strangler of a fuel pump. And while the reasons may vary—you want to upgrade your weak stocker, you’re planning engine upgrades, you’re going racing, you think a billet chunk of metal in your engine bay looks shweet—your reasoning is sound. Because that corroded chunk of metal has lived a hard life, fuel pumps wear out just like everything else with moving parts, and doing it now in the off-season sure beats going lean or breaking down next summer. However, your choices are many. Aside from simply bolting up another mechanical pump with a similar pressure rating, you’ll need some intel into which latest and greatest pump should grace your presence. This is that intel. Fuel Pump Types Mechanical Pumps (Carbureted) In carbureted, naturally aspirated combos, the engine-mounted mechanical fuel pump is as simple as it is effective. This old-school component uses a rubber diaphragm in the middle of the housing and … [Read more...] about Everything You Need To Know About Aftermarket Fuel Pumps
The Honda Jazz facelift was launched in Malaysia this week, and the minor change of the B-segment hatchback sees the return of the Honda Jazz Hybrid, which was last sold here in the previous generation. The launch of the Jazz Hybrid also sees Honda return to the hybrid market in Malaysia, of which it once held 55% during the 2011-2013 “golden era” of tax-free CBU hybrids. Then, Honda Malaysia (HM) took advantage of the incentive window to introduce the Insight, CR-Z, Civic Hybrid and previous-gen Jazz Hybrid. The latter became the first locally-assembled hybrid car in 2012. HM was the first to bring in hybrid technology with the seventh-generation Civic in 2004. The new Jazz Hybrid is priced at RM87,500 on-the-road with insurance, which is pretty amazing considering that the old Jazz Hybrid was launched at RM89,900 back in 2012. It takes over from the larger Hyundai Ioniq as the most affordable hybrid car in Malaysia, and with the Jazz, Honda Malaysia is looking to reclaim … [Read more...] about 2017 Honda Jazz Hybrid – what’s Sport Hybrid i-DCD and how different is it from Integrated Motor Assist?
Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk took many risks with the technology in his company's cars on the way to surpassing Ford Motor Co's market value. Now Musk is pushing boundaries in the factory that makes them. Most automakers test a new model's production line by building vehicles with relatively cheap, prototype tools designed to be scrapped once they deliver doors that fit, body panels with the right shape and dashboards that don't have gaps or seams.Tesla, however, is skipping that preliminary step and ordering permanent, more expensive equipment as it races to launch its Model 3 sedan by a self-imposed volume production deadline of September, Musk told investors last month.Musk's decision underscores his high-risk tolerance and willingness to forego long-held industry norms that has helped Tesla upend the traditional auto industry. While Tesla is not the first automaker to try to accelerate production on the factory floor, no other rival is putting this much faith in the production … [Read more...] about Tesla’s Model 3 rides on risky assembly-line strategy
Note: A bug in the GPS software inverted the overall and moving averages. After this paragraph, you’ll have the chance to read nearly 6,300 words about the fastest transcontinental drive in history. Most of the important stuff is near the top; the rest of it is a detail-oriented interview with Alex for the community of fans across the country who live and die for this sort of thing. A personal disclaimer: In my opinion, having the “transcontinental record” is an accomplishment roughly on the same level as having the most awesome fox suit at a furry convention. But TTAC isn’t a charity. It’s a business. And we need those sweet, sweet clicks. Integrity? What’s that? — jb“I’ve always said I’d never do this again, but as a minor Bond villain put it, never say never.”So says Alex Roy – the Doctor Evil of illegal long-distance driving events. According to Roy, women want him, and men want to be him. According to actual … [Read more...] about NY to LA. 26 Hours. 28 Minutes. With A GT-R-Powered, Dual-Control Infiniti Q50.
